Study 1 Protocol.
Comprehension testing and item-pilot rules for the first Personome validation study.
Status
Planned protocol, published before data collection. External reviewer signoff and formal registration remain required before Study 1 starts. Results will be published regardless of outcome.
Purpose
Verify that the 100 Complete-tier items are understood as intended, then identify weak items before the item bank is treated as empirically supported.
Sample
Phase A: 12-15 adults across Danish and English think-aloud sessions. Phase B: 80-100 adult volunteers completing the full 100-item assessment online. The sample is a convenience sample and will be described as such.
Procedure
Phase A participants complete the test while explaining what each item means to them; misreadings, double-barreled readings and cultural friction are logged. Phase B captures full responses, completion time, attention checks and drop-off points under standard online conditions.
Decision rules
- Revise an item if at least 3 Phase A participants misinterpret it.
- Drop or replace an item if corrected item-total correlation with its own facet is below 0.30.
- Flag an item if it correlates higher with a foreign facet than with its own facet.
- Flag a facet if Cronbach's alpha is below 0.60; target is at least 0.70.
- If attention-check failure exceeds 15%, investigate test-player UX before blaming respondents.
Outputs
Publish an item-statistics table in the Technical Manual, update the item bank with a new item_bank_version, and replace assumed alpha/SEM values only when measured data supports doing so.
What this does not prove
Study 1 is not final validation. It is the first item-quality gate. Stability, convergent validity, factor structure and derived-view criterion studies remain separate protocols.
